ABSS First Graders Launch Rockets as Part of Science, Math Lessons
With less than two weeks remaining in summer school, teachers in the Alamance Burlington School System continue to look for creative ways to engage their students. At Grove Park Elementary School, first graders got to design and build their own rocket ships. The rockets, which they launched using oversized straws, provided lessons in both math and science. The science lessons covered such topics as drag, thrust and pressure. Math lessons included lessons in measurements and lessons in counting backward for the launch sequence. Students in summer school have three more days this week and four days next week before finishing on Thursday, August 5.
