Alamance Libraries Stop Issuing Fines for Overdue Books
Alamance County libraries are no longer issuing fines for overdue library books and other loaned items. Under the new system, library patrons still have a specific period in which they are to return a borrowed book. The patrons will still receive overdue notices 14 days after the due date, and the library system will block the account of anyone who has a item that is 22 days of more overdue. A book or DVD is declared “lost” if it is more than 49 days overdue, and patrons must then pay the full replacement cost if they want their borrowing privileges reinstated. The replacement cost can be avoided if the patron returns the overdue item. For more details on the new no-fine policy, visit one of Alamance County’s public libraries.
