Burlington Assistant Police Chief Brian Long Promoted to Chief
The City of Burlington has decided to tap one of its own for its next Chief of Police. On Friday, the city announced that Assistant Police Chief Brian Long has been selected as the next leader of its police department. Long will be sworn in at a special ceremony tomorrow (Tuesday, October 19) at 3 p.m. outside of the city’s Municipal Building, 425 South Lexington Avenue. Long has served the Burlington Police Department for 26 years. You may recall that the city originally offered the Police Chief position to Rich Austin of Milton, Georgia. However, Austin decided not to take the position in late August, forcing Burlington to re-open the search. Long, who did not apply in the first round of the search, decided to put this name in for consideration. Long has been a member of the department’s leadership team for 14 of his 26 years. Since 2018, he has served as the Assistant Chief of Police over Operations. In that role, he has supervised approximately two-thirds of the department’s staff.
