Child Abuse Has Increased Since Start of Pandemic
Child advocacy experts say they have seen a 20-percent increase in child-related abuse over the past 18 months. Brandi Reagan, executive director of the Dragonfly House in Mocksville told WGHP Fox 8 that the increase could be the result of children and parents being together at home for longer periods of time because of the pandemic. Stress related to the changes caused by Covid 19 (such as with remote learning for students and an uncertain job situation for adults) may have also contributed to the increase in abuse. Anyone who suspects a child may be in abusive situation should contact the Children’s Services Unit of the Alamance County Department of Social Services.
