Deadline is Sept. 21 for Area Health Employees to Get Vaccine
Thousands of Duke University Health System and UNC Health workers could lose their jobs if they are not vaccinated against COVID-19 within the next two weeks. In July, the two hospital systems set September 21 as the deadline for their employees to be fully vaccinated. While more than 90 percent of those employees have been vaccinated or been granted exemptions for medical or religious reasons, there are still about 1,300 employees at Duke Health and 3,700 employees at UNC who are not compliant. Officials at both hospitals have said they do not plan to extend the deadline.
