District Court Wraps Up Last of Cases Involving Oct. 31 Protesters
On Wednesday, Alamance County District Court Judge Lunsford Long issued verdicts in the final three cases from last October’s March to the Polls protest in Graham. Samuel Pierce, Devante Cromartie and Stephen Morris Walker were all found guilty on misdemeanor charges of failure to disburse on command. Judge Long fined them $250 each. In addition, Pierce was found not guilty of resisting a public officer and rioting. Defense attorney Jason Keith indicated that he planned to appeal the convictions to Alamance County Superior Court. Several other district court convictions are also expected to be appealed. The cases stem from a protest in Graham on October 31 of last year. Graham Police and Alamance County Sheriff’s Deputies brought the protest and march to an end with the use of tear gas and by making several arrests that day.
