Eastern Alamance Golfer is Now Two-Time State Champion
Eastern Alamance junior Emily Mathews won her second straight Class 3-A state golf championship yesterday. Mathews shot a three-under-par 69 in Tuesday’s round to finish with a two-day score of even par. That was good enough for a 12-stroke lead at Foxfire Resort and Golf Club near Pinehurst. Two Western Alamance golfers placed in the top 25, with Mary Massey finishing in a tie for 20th and Makayla Martinez finishing tied for 25th. In May, Mathews won the state championship as a sophomore.
