Elon Officer Charged with Failure to Secure Firearm After His Son’s Death
Elon Police Officer Orlando Maynard has been changed with a misdemeanor in the accidental shooting death of his three-year-old son. The Guilford County Sheriff’s Office has charged Maynard with failure to secure a firearm to protect a minor. Maynard’s son was accidentally shot at his home on the morning of June 16th. The Elon officer, who has been on administrative leave since the accident, was not at home at the time of the shooting. The shooting took place at the Maynard residence in Whitsett.
