Elon Police Decrease Officer Back Pain with Use of Equipment Vests
Law Enforcement uniforms continue to evolve in an effort to meet the health, safety and technological needs of today’s officers. Earlier this month, the Elon Police Department transitioned to load-bearing outer vest carriers. The move is part of the department’s officer wellness initiative. Wearing police equipment on belts can cause lower back and hip pain, and studies have shown that such pain can be mitigated by using load-bearing vests. An officer’s standard-issue equipment can weigh up to 30 pounds, and the use of vests better distribute that weight.
