Expect to See Police at Burlington Railroad Crossings This Week
This is Rail Safety Week and Amtrak officials working to raise awareness of the importance of making safe choices near railroad tracks and trains. Approximately 2,000 serious injuries and deaths occur each year around U.S. railroad tracks and trains. As part of Rail Safety Week, Burlington Police officers will be stationed at several high-incident railroad crossings in Burlington. The law enforcement officials will enforce crossing and trespassing laws, as well as share safety tips to those they see near the tracks. The increased law enforcement presence this week is part of a nationwide campaign called “Operation Clear the Track.” It is taking place in cities throughout the U.S. during Rail Safety Week.
