Filing Ends for Fall Election; Burlington Sees Crowded Field of Candidates

An October 5th primary is necessary in Burlington this year to narrow a crowded field for both the city council and for mayor. Friday was the last day to file for those seats. On the ballot for mayor will be incumbent Ian Baltutis, current councilman Jim Butler (who opted to run for mayor and not seek re-election to his council seat), Walter Boyd, Caleb Massey and Donna Vanhook. Those attempting to earn a seat on the city council include former mayor Ronnie Wall, former city manager Harold Owen, former county commissioner Bob Byrd, and newcomers Charlie Beasley, Dejuan Warren Bigelow, and retired police officer Wendy Jordan.
