Former Burlington Police Chief Now with Department of Justice
Former Burlington Police Chief Jeffrey Smythe has a new job. Yesterday, North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein announced that he has hired Smythe to serve as the new director of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Standards Division. The division is part of the Department of Justice and sets standards for training and certification of all sworn police officers in our state. The division also reviews violations of the standards. Smythe stepped down from his role as Burlington Police Chief in May.
