Fort Bragg May Get a New Name by 2024
The Defense Department has assembled a Naming Commission and given it the task of renaming nine Army bases and two Navy ships whose names currently have ties to Confederate leaders. Included in the list is North Carolina Army base Fort Bragg. Bragg is named for Confederate General Braxton Bragg for his efforts in the Mexican-American War. The Naming Commission is expected to make recommendations and name changes are expected to be in place by January 2024.
