Hospitals throughout NC Dealing with Nursing Shortage

Right now, close to 15,000 registered nursing positions are available in our state. According to officials with Cone Health System, Alamance Regional Medical Center in Burlington has openings for 27 nurses. The shortage, along with the surge in Covid-19 cases, has caused a variety of issues. Among nurses at ARMC, some are being forced to handle multiple duties and cover double shifts, while others are choosing to retire early. The nursing program at Alamance Community College is poised to graduate 12 nurses from its program in December. That dozen nurses could make a difference in the vacancies at ARMC; however, some may choose to practice elsewhere – such as in doctors’ offices or nursing homes.
