Infestation of Bats Cause ABSS to Close Elementary/Middle School

The Alamance Burlington School system has closed Garrett Elementary School and Hawfields Middle School after school officials discovered bats living in the schools’ ceiling. The schools will remain closed until the removal of the bats is complete, Dr. Todd Thorpe told the Alamance News. Thorpe is the assistant superintendent of operations for ABSS. Wildlife officials have called the bat infestation “moderate,” Thorpe said. School officials, working with the Wildlife Resources Commission plan to capture the bats and return them to their natural habitat.
