Latest State Budget Bill Offers Teacher Raises, Motorsports Funds
Senate Leader Phil Berger, a republican from Rockingham County, released details yesterday of the latest compromise budget bill. He said the bill has strong bipartisan support, and he is hopeful that Governor Roy Cooper will sign it into law. The budget includes pay raises and bonuses for teachers and a $15 minimum wage for state employees. The budget includes $40 million in support for the motorsports industry – That $40 million will provide $18 million to make infrastructure improvements to North Wilkesboro Motor Speedway, $13 million to the City of Concord to be used for improvements to Charlotte Motor Speedway, and $9 million to improve water and sewer infrastructure at Rockingham Speedway. If the budget gets the necessary votes this week, then Gov. Cooper will have another 10 days to either sign or veto it.
