NC On Track to Break Litter Record This Year
North Carolina’s roadside trash collection record is expected to be broken this year. That’s because state crews, contractors and volunteers have already collected 7 million pounds of roadside litter statewide and we are only halfway through the year. The record for the amount of trash collected in a single year is 10.5 million pounds – which was collected in 2019, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation. The DOT has also set up a phone app to report someone for throwing trash from their vehicle. You can download the “Swat-A-Litterbug” app and report the license plate number of the person that you see littering. The app can be accessed by visiting ncdot.gov/litter.
