NC State Fair Shares Record-Setting Fruit at Today’s Opening
The North Carolina State Fair opens today (Oct. 14) in Raleigh, and fair goers will have the chance to see two record-setting fruits this year. Entries into the giant pumpkin and watermelon competitions both set new state records. The pumpkin record goes to Chris Rodebaugh from Lewisburg, West Virginia. Rodebaugh grew a 1,965 pound pumpkin. The record-setting watermelon was grown here in the Piedmont by Andrew Vial of Liberty. Vial’s watermelon weighs 341 pounds. That weight sets a new state record and is just nine pounds shy of the world record. The State Fair will continue until October 24.
