Raised Garden Beds Provide Outdoor Classroom for Elon Elementary Students

At Elon Elementary School, students have the opportunity to learn first-hand that food does not come from a box or a can. That’s because the school has more than 40 raised gardening beds that serve as an outdoor classroom for the students. The garden was made possible by grants from Impact Alamance and Dole Foods, and several teachers and community volunteers worked during the summer to prepare the space. In addition to providing an education in gardening, the students also learn about healthy lifestyle choices and about providing food for those who may live in countries with limited food options.
