Three Alamance High School Football Teams Advance in State Playoffs
The number of Alamance County high school football teams in the state playoffs went from five to three Friday night. Conference champions Eastern Alamance and Cummings both advanced with wins on their home turf, while Williams secured its first playoff victory in a decade. Eastern’s passing game provided the spark for the Eagles who had no trouble with East Wake in a 56-12 victory. At Cummings, Jonathan Paylor scored the game-winning touchdown on a 70-yard run late in the fourth quarter to push the Cavaliers to a 36-28 win over Greene Central. Williams outscored Wilson-Fike 21-0 in the second half en route to a 48-24 road win. Eliminated from the playoffs were Western Alamance, which lost 22-8 at Jacksonville, and Southern Alamance, which fell 49-36 to Panther Creek. Other area teams eliminated from the championship hunt were Eastern Guilford and Bartlett-Yancey.
