Veterans’ Plaza Opens In Burlington
The Veterans' Plaza at the Burlington Arboretum officially opened yesterday with a special flag-raising ceremony. The plaza was constructed to honor all those who have served in the four main branches of the U.S. military. It is at the intersection of South Church Street and West Willowbrook Drive and occupies the former site of the American Legion Hut. On hand for yesterday’s flag-raising ceremony were Tony Laws, director of Burlington Parks and Recreation; Rett Davis, president of the New Leaf Society that raised funds for the plaza; and Dick Shirley, a Navy veteran and former Burlington car dealer who spearheaded the fundraising efforts for the plaza.
