Western Alamance Wins Boys’ Soccer State Championship

Western Alamance completed its Cinderella run through the state playoffs Friday, with the Warrior boys’ soccer team winning the 3-A State Championship. Ian Bacchus scored the game’s only goal in Friday’s match, hitting a penalty kick to the left side of the goal to give Western a 1-0 victory over Hickory. Western played the state tournament as the Number 21 seed from the East. The goal was Bacchus’ 22nd goal of the season and earned him recognition as the title game’s Most Valuable Player. The state title was the first for a Western Alamance team in boys’ soccer and marked the school’s first appearance in the state title game since 1997.
