Youth Coordinator Works with Burlington PD to Divert Teens from a Life of Crime
About a year and a half ago, the Burlington Police Department hired a Youth Diversion Coordinator to work with juvenile offenders in hopes of preventing them from committing crimes as an adult. Since joining the department, the coordinator has worked with 100 teens and pre-teens. The coordinator’s job has become even more significant in recent months as Burlington has seen an uptick in crimes by juveniles and young adults. The Burlington PD knows that the hiring of one youth diversion coordinator will not be the sole solution to stopping youth crime. Other pieces of a complex puzzle include conversations by parents to youth, as well as the coordination of additional mentors for youngsters. If you have an interest in serving as a mentor to a teen in Burlington, contact the Burlington Police Department for an application.
